Tim Hixson. Here and Away.
06 August – 06 September 2014
Leaf, Sri Lanka Avalon Beach, Australia
Tim Hixson
The wonderful world of Tim Hixson and his plastic camera presents a new collection of perfectly lovely observations from a recent trip to India and Sri Lanka. He has connected all of these whimsical travel images back to his beach home of Avalon in Sydney. Hixson’s use of gold leaf, sandwiched acetates and the little anomalies of a plastic camera, all make for an ethereal and beautiful photo essay.

Paul Blackmore
Simple, beautiful, black and white nudes. A departure from Blackmore’s usual documentary work. Printed large, with a selection of smaller works, the lines and shadows create sensual and lovely imagery. You will find Blackmore’s two books also on display and for sale – At Water’s Edge (2012) and Australians (1999). I’m really looking forward to next year’s new work titled Heat – a documentary collection revealing Australia over summer. Black Eye Gallery is always worth a visit.

This collection of experimental images are all made with a tiny little automatic camera device, attached to one’s jacket like a coat lapel pin – called a ‘body tripod’ or ‘narrative clip’. Catching glimpes of the everday – moments we often take no notice of or are just unaware of in our periperhery – this little camera captures those moments, perhaps at one capture per minute. Hundreds per day. The streets of Sydney, Hong Kong and Madrid all feature in this fascinating collection. Is this crossing some line of privacy? Grace is a filmmaker, new media producer, photographer, academic, lecturer and university Professor.
