September Pop-Up Newsletter. Spring in Sydney…

SEPTEMBER POP-UP ARTS NEWSLETTER
Spring in Sydney is lovely… jasmine blooming, wildflowers exploding, sun mostly shining, magpies eyeing you off and thinking about swooping – or just swooping. Unless you love jumping into the freezing ocean, swimming will soon be back on the agenda. Just when all this is happening I am packing my bags and heading to New York in Autumn… festivals, galleries, art, walking, soulfood, Central Park, coloured autumn leaves. Staying between the East Village, Chinatown and Brooklyn…for part of it I will also be looking after a little dog named Cleo…

Helen Grace. Image from Out of Sight: Proof exhibition

A collection of experimental images all made with a tiny little automatic camera device called a ‘narrative clip’. This little camera captures hundreds of odd moments of the everyday. The streets of Sydney, Hong Kong and Madrid all feature in this fascinating collection. Helen is a filmmaker, new media producer, photographer, academic, lecturer and university Professor.

JUST OUT OF TOWN (that’s just out of Sydney town)…
Draw on the Mountain Festival – $5000 Sketchbook Art Prize + Workshops

Brochure for Draw on the Mountain 2014

If you are looking for an excuse to spend a few Spring days in the mountains, here it is. If you can draw, even just a little, even better! Find out all the details online below. The beauty of this Sketchbook Prize is in producing a collection of work, not just one work. I loved looking at the finished books last year and could see judging the winner a difficult task. 2013 was won by Glebe resident, Robert Shepherd. Judges this year are Damien Minton (now at Watter’s Gallery), Gria Shead (Artist) and Selena Seifert (Artist and Festival Director).

Masters of Sex

Posters from Masters of Sex series
Based on the biography of Dr. William Masters and Virginia Johnson, the couple who taught America how to love. This is a clever, sexy, fascinating and totally engaging drama series. Well scripted, well acted and perfectly styled. Set in the late 50s to early 60s, what adds to the interest of the subject matter – the science of sex – is the mores of the time in which this is all set. I love it! Last year the series received a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Drama Series – and well deserved if that matters.
