Pop-Up Publicity April Arts Newsletter 2012 www.popupp.com.au
With Art Month now behind us and Head On Photo Festival, Writers Week and Vivid ahead in May, April has some top shows opening and a few closing, so make sure not to miss these gems (all free) before Sydney is bursting at the seams images and words. Autumn has been lovely with its bright skies, odd storms and the fluttering of leaves everywhere – look out for vibrant oranges, splashes of red and buttercup yellows – when you see them they are truly beautiful. Best of wishes for a great month. Cassie French 0416 209 391

The elegance of this photographer is her ability to focus on simple contours, to respond to luminous colours and to capture in her photographs the essence such images can evoke. A play between light & dark. Gorgeous, sublime and captivating.

Highly Recommended (also Opening this Week)…
Studio. Richard Tipping 18 April – 6 May 2012.
Opening Night Tuesday 17 April 6-8pm
Tipping – the man of words and text – treats Sydney with a brand new collection of clever, witty, engaging and collectable artsigns.
“These artsigns started with Airpoet in 1979. Feelings swing between lyrical and political, bemused and amused, ambiguously angry and plain hopeful. Some are sweet takes and some
sour grapes. Conundrums, paradoxes and koans. They push out from a conversation between word and image questioning attitudes and expectations, bringing a private heat to public messaging.” Richard Tipping, 2012
In Conversation Saturday 5 May 2012 4.30 for 5pm start.

My Secret Gallery to Discover…
Sydney Antique Centre, Surry Hills. Open everyday.
This is like visiting a gorgeous decorative arts museum, but you can buy the stuff!
Vintage clothes & accessories, French antiques, jewellery, porcelain (& more!)
- 12
- shop 017 fashion1
- shop 016 fashion1
- shop 019 fashion1
The best vintage range of stores are found downstairs!
My recent purchases have been a 1940’s snakeskin handbag, a 1950’s cotton party dress and a white cotton broderie anglaise shirt for my daughter. I have also been coveting, but with no where to put them (or perhaps afford them): a 19th C pale blue French enamel bathtub (exquisite); lots of 1940’s, 50’s & 60’s dresses, hats, gloves, shoes; the prettiest porcelain teacups and plates ever; gigantic timber trestle tables; nic-nacs & bric-a-brac galore; plus beautiful vintage jewellery. Oh, I love this place. It is not a stuffy old smelly mess of an antique junk shop (though I like those sometimes too). This is an elegant experience of curiosity, beauty, humour, ridiculousness and fun. The coffee shop sells Allpress coffee, great light lunches and some of the best cakes and pastries to rival Bourke Street Bakery (maybe they are from Bourke Street Bakery?)
